Basic information

WHAT ARE THE GROUPS?
There are two groups of area writers who meet regularly. The Joy of Writing [JOW] Group and the Glens Falls Writers' Group [GFWG].

WHAT IS THE JOY OF WRITING GROUP ALL ABOUT?
Aspiring Writers and Poets. Come together, write and share with us in a supportive environment. No need to publish. All levels of experience welcome! The JOW group meets monthly and its primary purpose is to be a place where you can simply write. Prompts are often provided. The JOW group meets on the first Thursday of every month from 10 AM until noon at the LARAC Building in downtown Glens Falls. JOW asks participants to contribute $1 per meeting for use of the space. WHAT IS THE GF WRITERS' GROUP ALL ABOUT?
The GFWG is a group of writers who meet to share work they've already written. GFWG welcomes writers of any level and of any genre: novels, short stories, plays, poems, journalism, memoirs and essays. Some members are prolific, others aren't. Some have had work published, others haven’t. There is no requirement to submit work. The group is simply a forum for anyone who writes, whether for publication, for personal reasons or for any other reason. Critiques are done in a constructive, supportive way. Some meetings may include discussions on various writing topics, such as creative non-fiction and query letters. At the end, anyone who wishes may submit something for critique at the following meeting. We do, however, that you not submit anything for critique until after your second meeting so you get a feel for how the groups operate. The GFWG meets on the first and third Thursdays of each month from 7-9 PM in the Holden Room of the Crandall Library in Glens Falls. The cost is free. WHAT IF I WRITE FOR CHILDREN OR YOUNG ADULTS?
While all genres are welcome at the regular meetings, there has in the past been a separate group that meets solely to focus on critiquing and discussing writing for children and/or young adults. However, this C/YA group is temporarily on hiatus at the moment. If you're interested in children's books, please contact John Briggs at johnthobriggs @ yahoo.com
